Hills Of Steel places a green tank on rolling battlefields filled with enemy armour. NubiGames tested the game manually in desktop Chrome on September 16, 2026. The session reached 18 eliminations, encountered a large boss tank and produced two genuine destruction screens, although no battle was completed with a victory.
Tank controls tested on desktop
The tutorial displayed the arrow keys for movement, Space for firing and R for the booster. Our manual test confirmed that Right Arrow drives forward, Left Arrow reverses, Space fires the cannon and R activates the booster. A confirmed shot produced a visible projectile and smoke at the muzzle.
No separate aiming command was shown or verified. Positioning the tank on the hills changes its angle, so movement and terrain affected the direction of the cannon during the observed battles. Two round on-screen buttons also appeared in some runs, but we did not use them and do not assign functions to them.
Enemies and progress reached
The HUD included the player’s health bar, coins, a skull elimination counter and a battle-related bar across the top. The first encounter placed the green player tank against a black tank and ended when the player exploded. Later combat showed grey, blue, red or camouflaged tanks and a much larger black tank marked with a skull. Its size, marker and separate health bar distinguished it as the boss encountered during the test.
One sequence reached five eliminations and five coins. Another, in a snowy environment, showed one elimination and 26 coins. The longest observed run took place in greener terrain and reached 18 eliminations with 60 coins; the coin display later reached 61. Damage was represented by health bars rather than exact numbers. The player bar fell through heavily damaged and critical states, while regular enemies and the boss had their own bars.
What happens when the tank is destroyed?
Two destructions led to “Restore the tank?” screens. Their displayed counters were seven and six. Recovery could be purchased for three gems or obtained through a “Free!” video offer. Neither option was selected, and the close button was left as the safe exit from the offer.
No Retry, Restart or Next button appeared on those screens, and no victory screen was reached. The session therefore confirms combat, enemy destruction, coin collection and defeat, but not the final condition or reward for winning a full battle.
Coins, high score and available battle areas
Coin totals observed across the session included 0, 5, 25, 26, 32, 35, 37, 39, 43, 45, 54, 60 and 61. The test did not isolate the exact number awarded by each enemy. Menus showed zero gems and zero chests. A Highscore label was visible and reached 14 in one run, but its precise scoring formula was not explained.
The selection screen listed Midsummer Siege, Winter War, Desert, Jungle, Moon and Boss Rush. Winter War, Desert and Jungle each showed a price of 1,500 coins, Moon showed 7,000 coins, and Boss Rush showed two gems. We did not purchase or unlock an area, so these figures are reported only as the displayed access costs.
Garage and advertising observed
A garage appeared behind an interstitial with the categories Armor, Gun and Engine. The green starting tank was the vehicle used in combat. Upgrade levels, prices and locked vehicle details were not readable reliably enough to document. The cart and settings icons were visible but not opened.
A timed Playgama interstitial appeared before the game, and an “INKWAY” interstitial later covered the garage. The destruction screen also offered the rewarded restore video. No advertisement was opened and no rewarded option was activated. We did not view a real-money product or make a purchase.
Test limits
The player appeared in landscape orientation. Pause was visible but not opened. Settings, Sound, Music, missions, vehicle unlocks, mobile controls, touch input and fullscreen remain untested. No developer is attributed because none was explicitly identified in the tested interface.
Hills Of Steel belongs to the Action Games collection, where you can browse other combat and movement challenges available on NubiGames.
Frequently asked questions
How do you control the tank on desktop?
Use Right Arrow to drive forward, Left Arrow to reverse, Space to fire and R to activate the booster. All four actions were confirmed manually.
Is there a separate aiming control?
None was confirmed. Movement over the hills changed the tank and cannon angle during the tested battles.
Which enemies appeared?
Black, grey, blue, red or camouflaged tanks appeared, followed by a much larger black boss marked with a skull and its own health bar.
What happens after the tank is destroyed?
The game displays “Restore the tank?” and offers recovery for three gems or through a free video. Neither option was used during our test.
Which battle areas were visible?
Midsummer Siege, Winter War, Desert, Jungle, Moon and Boss Rush appeared on the selection screen. The locked areas displayed coin or gem costs.
Was a battle completed?
No. The longest observed run reached 18 eliminations and the boss, but the session ended without a victory or final battle reward.
